Lieutenant General U.S. Air Force and Former Inspector General of the Air Force. Gerald W. Johnson was born in Owenton, Kentucky in . He joined the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College, but left college in to enter the Aviation Cadet program at Randolph Field, Texas. In April , he earned his wings and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps.
