Prominent New York City neurologist, psychiatrist and author. Dr. Richard Horace Hoffmann (- ?) is probably best known for his The Girl in Poison Cottage, an account of the sensational murder and child sex abuse trial of Mary Frances Creighton and Everett Appelgate he co-authored with Jim Bishop [James Alonzo Bishop ( - )]. Hoffmann had testified during the trial that Mary Frances Creighton was legally sane at the time of the event. His first book, The Struggle for Health, was published in . In he co-wrote The Conquest of Tension with and Alfonso Washington Pezet. Hoffmann had been married to American film actress Janet Beecher ( - ) from whom he separated in and later divorced.
