'American crime, detective and mystery novelist, historian and screenwriter. Collins scripted the internationally syndicated comic strip Dick Tracy from to , and wrote three Tracy novels. His first novel, True Detective, was published in and a won Private Eye Writers of America 'Shamus' award. In , he won again with Stolen Away, but was an award nominee for five other 'Nathan Heller' historical thrillers. As one of the most profilic authors of movie tie-in novels, he has written many international bestsellers. Reversing the process, his graphic novel Road to Perdition was made into an Oscar-winning motion picture. Collins has also been profilic in the non-fiction field, having written over 20 historical books for Collectors Press including such titles as Elvgren: His Life & Art, History of Mystery, Calendar Girl: Sweet & Sexy Pin-Ups of the Postwar Era , For the Boys: The Racy Pin-Ups of World War II, and the co-authored Men's Adventure Magazines. He has been nominated for an Edgar award and received a Life Achievement Award from the Historical Mystery Appreciation Society. '
