    Author: Howard Waldrop

Information about this author from Lame Excuse Books.
I have almost a complete stock of Howard Waldrop books, both hardsback first editions and paperbacks, most signed. Ask if you're looking for something special. I can also have any Waldrop book in stock inscribed to you from Howard upon request.

Click title for more details. Click dealer name to contact or purchase direct from dealer.
1.   Waldrop, Howard (introduction by Chad Oliver)   Night of the Cooters   Publisher: Ursus/Mark V. Ziesing, 1990. First edition hardback, #350/374 numbered copies signed by all the contributors (including the late Chad Oliver, who provides the introduction, and the late Don Ivan Punchatz, who did the cover art), F/F- in slipcase, with tiny bump to dj head. If you don't own a copy of this wonderful collection, here's your chance. Some great stories in here, including the title story (where heavily armed Texans kick Martian war machine butt), "Wild, Wild Horses" (about a centaur trying to get home to America from Roman Europe), "Fin de Cycle" (which features a bicycle duel on the Eiffel Tower), and "Do Ya, Do Ya Wanna Dance" (which I can't even describe). Highly recommended.

3.   Waldrop, Howard   Them Bones with A Dozen Tough Jobs   Publisher: Mark V. Ziesing, 1989.. First hardback edition and first edition, respectively, each Fine in a Fine dj, and though these are the trade editions, this set is offered in the same slipcase as the signed/limited edition. Signed by Waldrop. Obviously, Mark had a few extras of the slipcase left over. Since these are signed by Howard, the only real difference between these and the real limited edition is the lack of a limitation page and the absence of Howard's signature and "Mr. National Treasure, to you" embossed on the front covers of the books themselves. Oh, and I'm selling this set for considerably less than the limited set goes for these days...

18.   Waldrop, Howard (introduction by Lucius Shepard).   Going Home Again   Publisher: Eidolon Publications, 1997.. First edition trade paperback original (TPO), a Fine copy, new and unread. Another weird, wooly Waldrop collection, including "the Mexican Wrestlers story" ("El Castillo de la Perseverancia"), the "Shemp and Peter Lorre do Brecht" story ("The Effects of Alienation,") and a whole bunch of other Waldropian weirdness. Preceded the St. Martin's edition by a year.

19.   Utley, Steven & George W. Proctor, editors (Harlan Ellison, Bruce Sterling, Howard Waldrop, Tom Reamy, Chad Oliver, etc.   Lone Star Universe   Publisher: Heidelberg Publishers, 1976. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in a Very Good+ dust jacket with a shallow 1/16" chip at head, several tiny closed tears along top edge, one long crease along the very bottom of the front cover, and slight darkening in shallow strips along top and bottom edges of front and rear flaps (probably from an old-style dust jacket protector affixed there); despite all the forgoing, this is actually in much better condition than the jacket is usually found (which is usually beat to hell), as the rest of the jacket is quite bright and unrubbed. Original collection of stories by mostly then up and coming Texas writers. Neither the Sterling nor Waldrop stories have ever been reprinted.

Appr.:   AUD 80.65 CAD 81.52 EUR 55.97 GBP 44.78 JPY 7,500.00 MXN 937.50 ZAR 806.45

20.   Zebrowski, George (Howard Waldrop, James Tiptree, Jr., James Morrow, Rudy Rucker, Marc Laidlaw, etc.)   Synergy: Volume Two   Publisher: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1988.. First edition paperback original (PBO), a Fine- copy with slight wrinkles to head and heel, otherwise new and unread. So HBJ, not known as an SF publisher, decided to do a series of paperback original anthologies, and then, after disappointing sales for the first one, went "Hey, these aren't selling! Let's raise the price!" Which they did, to $8.95, a price completely unheard of at the time. Shockingly, such a bold pricing policy did not cause the books to fly off the shelf, and the series was cancelled after four books. I wills say that the books do have much higher production values than the usual paperbacks, with nice, white, acid-free pages...

24.   (Robert E. Howard) Lansdale, Joe R., and Scott A. Cupp, editors, Howard Waldrop, Bradley Denton, Lawrence Person, etc.   Cross Plains Universe: Texans Celebrate Robert E. Howard   Publisher: MonkeyBrain Books/Fandom Association of Central Texas, 2006.. First edition trade paperback original, Fine, new and unread. Signed by 13 contributors. This was the convention book given out to attendees of this year's World Fantasy Convention held in Austin, Texas November 2-5. The theme of last year's convention was Robert E. Howard's Centennial, and this book was published as a celebration of his work, some featuring Howard's characters (with the permission of his estate), some featuring Howard himself as a character, and others Howard pastiches or tributes. I have a story in here, "The Toughest Jew in the West," which is one of the weirdest in the collection. This copy has been signed by 11 of the 22 contributors: Joe R. Lansdale, Scott Cupp, Howard Waldrop, Bradley Denton, Bill Crider, Chris Nakashima-Brown, Jayme Blashke, Mark Finn, Rick Klaw, Paul Miles, Carrie Richerson, James Reasoner and Lawrence Person (that would be me). 25.   Waldrop, Howard (with Bruce Sterling, George R. R. Martin, Leigh Kennedy, Steven Utley, Buddy (Jake) Saunders, and A. A.   Custer's Last Jump and Other Collaborations   Publisher: Golden Gryphon, 2003.. First edition hardback, Fine in a Fine dj. New and unread. Signed by Waldrop. OK, let me crow a little here. Howard first mentioned that he had enough stories to do a collaborative collection back in 1987, in the Nova Express interview we did with him that was actually published in 1988. After reading that, Ken Keller asked Howard to do this book for Nemo Press. Alas, Nemo went silent after doing The Essential Ellison, and this became yet another small press Flying Dutchman. Now it's finally found a home at Golden Gryphon. In addition to the swell title story, there's a great, original 11th century Japanese detective story written with Bruce Sterling ("The Latter Days of the Law"), "Black as the Pit From Pole to Pole" (Frankenstein's Monster in the Hollow Earth, with Utley), and tons more neat stuff. Highly Recommended. You need it.
