Black cloth spine & rear board, white paper-covered front board, foil titles on green background on spine, green endpapers, [ix], 305 pp. Spine ends & corners heavily rubbed & fraying. An oddity, bound with white paper front cover, on which is written "Menabilly, Cornwall, Christmas 1949. This copy of The Parasites brings to each of you my very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. Yours sincerely, Daphne du Maurier." The strangely impersonal inscription suggests a facsimile sent out in large quantities, but I can't find another similar copy catalogued. Shipping weight 2 lbs.

This surprisingly scarce title by the author of A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy consists of entertaining new definitions for words that are currently underused as names for villages, towns, and small cities, mostly British, but with some midwestern American names (Duluth (adj.): The smell of a taxi out of which people have just gotten. Hibbing (n.): The marks left on the outside breast pocket of a storekeeper's overalls where he has attempted to put away his pen and missed.). Shipping weight 1 lb.

Revised and expanded edition of "The Baffling Eyes of Youth." Under the new title, nine new chapters are added, most dates are removed, and all references to ice wagons and the ice man have been carefully expunged from the text, even in what are supposedly verbatim quotes from diary entries. A cover drawing is also added, showing a 1962-style juvenile delinquent lounging against a brick wall, lighting a cigarette, as a delectable-looking young lady in high heels walks past. Main flaw is dampstaining about the margins, especially of the first and last few dozen pages. Otherwise, moderate rubbing and about 2" of half-title separating at gutter. This Swedish-language book is of interest as immigration history, genealogy, and family history. It lists emigrants to America from Långasjö and Kronoberg, Sweden, and contains brief biographies of many of the emigrants and their families in the United States and Canada. Shipping weight 6 lbs.
