PINK LUSTRE HANDLELESS TEA BOWL & DEEP SIPPING SAUCER.
Manufacturer: Unknown, England. C. 1800 - 1825.. Handpainted porcelain (soft paste or bone china) with shades of purplish pink to dark purple. Bowl: a dark, narrow luster band along the outside of the rim below which is a broad band of thin luster wash with darker borders. Below this plain band is another band with an alternating pattern of fronds and apple-like fruit (in orange & red enamel) with green enameled leaves. The apple motif is repeated in the bowl's bottom & a narrow lustre band encircles the interior just below the rim. Saucer: 2 bands at rim below which are broadswags of thin lustre wash with overpainted foliage. The reserves have thin lustre foliage & branches with red enameled dots of fruit dots, repeating the motif in the bottom of the bowl. These dots appear to the naked eye to be a dark purple, but are prove to be red when viewed with magnification. Saucer is 5 5/8" d. x 1 1/4" h. & bowl is 3 1/2" d. across top, 1 7/8" d. across foot, 2 1/2" h.). C. 1800 - 1825. The crudeness in the application of the lustremakes it difficult to distinguish between wear and sloppy painting, so I leave the photos to speak to this issue. The saucer has very fine, barely visible overall crazing. The bowl has scattered spots & a 1/4" l. line of discoloration near the bottom; and some very fine, barely visible crazing under the foot.
