PRIMITIVE 19TH C. SCHOOL SLATE CHALKBOARD.
Manufacturer: Unknown. Unknown.. 11" x 15" h. Double sided. Age darkened wooden frame with nailed dovetailed construction. Leftside of frame has two pairs of old nails, which attached a strip of leather (presumably for carrying) of which only a remnant remains. The top of the frame has two holes, which may have been for hanging. The wood is quite distressed with a few short cracks. Some of the nails, particularly those with the larger heads, may have been early make-do additions to tighten the frame, although the simple design & the lack of uniformity in the placement of the smaller head nails strongly suggests this was homemade. The sizable crack in the slate ends at its bottom with a small piece missing. The slate, however, is held tightly in the frame.

QUEEN ANTIQUE CHOPPING or MINCING KNIFE.
Manufacturer: Andover Stamping Company, Andover, NY. 1904 - 1910.. 6 bell-shaped, japanned, thin steel blades are held by a cast steel handle. The blades, as a unit, are rotatable around the base of the handle. 5 7/8" h. x 4 1/2" w. at the base of the blades. One blade impressed "PAT'D QUEEN 1894". Little of the original black paint remains on the handle. Scattered wear to the japanning & scattered light rust on the blades. Fred H. Rundell of Horsehead, NY was issued Pat. No. 518,279 on April 17,1894 for this chopping knife. He (then of Andover, NY) was also issued at least one other patent: 831,746 on September 25, 1906 for a "culinary utensil." He may also have held patents on other kitchen tools manufactured by Andover Stamping. "F. H. Rundell, as principal of the Rundell Manufacturing Company, has signed a contract to remove the establishment to Andover, Allegany County, [NY] where natural gas may be obtained for power purposes at from 10 to 15 cents per thousand. Mr. Rundell for the past six months has been in charge of enameling works at Johnstown, Pa. He came to Watkins some four years ago, removing his plant to this place from Corning." (Watkins Democrat, April 23, 1903). Andover Stamping Company became the successor to the Rundell Manufacturing Co. in 1904, at which time they began manufacturing the "New Queen Chopping Knife" along with the Alberta Kettle, Star Carpet Stretcher, Combination Dipper, Patent Bake Pan, Perfect Scraper, Little Jim Tack Puller, Ideal Can Opener and Housekeeper's Delight. (http://www.alleganyhistory.org/places/towns-and-villages/a-e/andover/andover-related-articles/2459-andover-stamping-plant). Rundell was General Manager of the Andover Stamping Plan until it closed in 1910 after declaring bankruptcy. See also:http://www.andoverfreelibrary.org/archive/1900/1904/07_27_1904_01.pdf

RECAST HALLOWEEN GIRL CAST IRON DOORSTOP.
Manufacturer: Unknown. C. 1970.. Little girl in trick-or-treater costume holding Jack-O-lantern. 13 3/4" h. 9 5/8" x 2 1/2"base. Hollow back painted black. Unmarked. C. 1970 recast of the original by Littco Products of Littlestown, PA. The 3 recasts I have seen evidenced variations in the quality of the painting. This example features eyelashesand a prominent outlining of the eyelids in black that were not present in the other examples. Having never seen an example fresh from the foundry to which this one can be compared, it is impossible to distinguish real distress from whatever highly credible artificial aging techniques were applied. See photos for details of the surface. Shipping by Insured Priority Mail.
