Brown was a novelist, essayist, journalist and noted food critic, but is perhaps best remembered for his early avant-garde poetry exemplified in this volume, as well as for being the visionary inventor of the "reading machine, " for which he published books on spools of tape by WC Williams, Pound, Stein and others.
