NAKED LUNCH.
Author: BURROUGHS, William S. Publisher: New York: Grove Press, 1959.
First edition. 8vo. Near fine in a very good jacket. Jacket price-clipped. Minor edgewear, a couple of tiny edge-chips. Two small scuffs front panel. Else bright and sharp. Book has touches shelfwear to extremities. Else clean, sound and square overall. Binding: Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine in Very Good DJ. First US edition / printing (both book and jacket) of the Beat masterpiece, which - copyright date aside - was not actually published in this edition until 1962. A landmark novel, it led to several important court decisions on indecency and censorship. Certainly Burroughs' best-known work (it was successfully adapted by David Cronenberg into a fine film of the same name), it is also arguably Burroughs' best and most enduring as well. One of 3500 copies. And incidently, there are no "states" of this jacket, contrary to some dealer's listings. There are only later printings of the jacket married to earlier editions of the book; see Shoaf 2b-i. [Maynard and Miles 2Ab]. Quantity available: 1.
