Hughes, Nigel:
Maya Monuments

Publisher: Woodbridge, Antique Collectors Club, 2000. (1st Edition).
152pp with 60 colour illus and numerous artist's sketches. Maya Monuments presents a pictorial record of 40 representative Maya buildings and sculpted monoliths, selected by the author to show the stylistic range of the Classic and Post-Classic periods of that remarkable and accomplished civilisation. Resources are insufficient these days to protect them all, and many are now suffering from exposure to the elements, from ransacking and undermining by looters, and in some cases from the new pressure of tourism. Nigel Hughes travelled overland to visit the sites, some of which are only accessible on foot and were reached with great difficulty. The ever encroaching forest and the ravages of looters mean that some of these great ruins are subject to continual change. Fine cond ; fine cond d/w. 10 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches
