Brade, L. (Kersten, Paul], Illustrated by: B&W Engravings and Samples
L. Brade's Illustriertes Buchbinderbuch. Ein Lehr- und Handbuch der gesamten Buchbinderei und aller in dieses Fach eingeschlagenden Techniken. Neubearbeitet von Paul Kersten.
Publisher: Wilhelm Knapp Halle (Salle) 1921. Pebbled green cloth hardcover, no titles. viii +308 pages + 8 B&W plates illustrating fine bindings + 8 pages with actual samples of fine marbled papers (four to a page) +18 pages [ads]. Text is all in German script. Apparently published without covers and cased by individual bookbinders. This one is in a very work-a-day binding, heavy strong durable dark green pebbled cloth but nothing fancy. The text paper is not of extremely high quality and it has mellowed (okay - browned some) with age. The marbled paper samples are on better quality paper (both sample and book page) and are strikingly clean, bright and astonishingly beautiful. The book is clean and tight throughout, the cover shows light edge rubs and slightly bowed bottom corners. Significant as a sample or swatch book, useful if you read German and are a bookbinder. COLLECTIBLE 3692 Later Edition No Dust Jacket (as issued) Hard Cover Very Good Condition 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Books on Books
