Bowden, Clyde N., compiler. Way, Frederick, Jr.
Catalog of the Inland Rivers Library [at Cincinnati] with a Foreword by Captain Frederick Way, Jr. ...
Publisher: Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Rare Book Room, 1968. compiled by Clyde N. Bowen, Curator. Based on the collection of The Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen. [4], 156 p. mimeographed from typescript catalog cards; 28 cm. "not solely a documentation of steamboats... equally important are the shipyards, the river people, the makers of boilers, engines, bells, whistles, calliopes and kevels. Also the complex story of river improvement, locks, dams, revetments, levees, snagboats and dipper dredges. Also the development of 'government lights', buoys and such aids to navigation. Barges, terminals, wharfboats. The ever-changing character of water-borne traffic; the exploration of the streams. Add to this sampling of the complexity that the so-called Mississippi steamboat had a habit of wandering far afield. The Ohio River people built the shallow water steamers for the Yukon, the Nile, the Volga, the Magdalena. The Inland Rivers story is one of global proportions." Blue pictorial paper; inscribed by Alfred H. Perrin, publication benefactor; VG. stock#20955.
