Hollos, Clara.
THE STORY OF YOUR COAT.
Publisher: International Publishers Co. Inc. [No place]. 1946.. 1st & only edition. Unpaginated [47pp]. sm4to. Gray cloth with yellow lettered front cover. A Young World Book. Illustrated by Herbert Kruckman in b/w and part color. Although no mention is made of Marx or communism, Hellos obviously takes her story from one in "Das Kapital"by telling how a coat is produced from wool on Australian sheep to its sale in a department store. In the process, she explains the importance of unionizing for improving the lives of workers. Hollos wrote this story in a class at New York City's Jefferson School of Social Science (a Marxist institute founded in 1943 by teachers blacklisted as associated with the U.S.A. Communist Party) taught by Elizabeth Morrow Bacon who was the editor of International's Young World Books series, which she founded in 1945. A second book, The Story of Your Bread, was published in 1948, but otherwise nothing known about the author. Herbert Kruckman (1904- 1998) was a artist, cartoonist, illustrator, teacher and author, who taught at the Jefferson School of Social Science beginning in 1944. He contributed frequently to left wing magazines, as well as the mainstream media including New Republic, NY Times & NY Post. Child's name "Kim" in ink on front free endpaper o/w Good+, i.e. obvious signs of use with no important defects. No dustjacket.
