L. B. Urbino.
The Home Angel.

Publisher: Boston: Wentworth and Company, 1857..
1st ed. Green cloth with front cover blindstamping and center gilt floral illustration. Spine has gilt decoration and lettering. Blind stamped rear cover. 239 pages. 8vo. Tissue guarded frontis. A very early novel of interracial marriage (The woman is a light skinned African-American). A very subtle and tentative look at this form of marriage which was, of course, castigated in those days. An interesting theme for a book at the time when blacks were still slaves in many places in the world and the U.S. was slowly and inexorably moving toward the War Between the States. The cover is lightly soiled and rubbed along edges and corners. One corner is worn through. Foxing throughout the book. It is a solid copy. Good+.

Green cloth hardcover beautifully decorated in black and gold, with floral panel on top board and gilt floral on spine. This is an ORIGINAL printing. Mark Twain's Sketches New and Old.

Publisher: Hartford CT: American Publishing Co., 1875..
First edition Octavo in the publisher's half brown morocco binding, all edges gilt. 320 pages. First edition, first state with the misplaced footnote on page 120, and "From Hospital Days" on page 299 along with the erratum laid in. Johnson, p.24. BAL, 3364. An interesting collection of irreverent essays composed over the previous 12 years. Previous owner name in pencil on front endpaper dated 1876. Prelims lightly foxed and free endpapers deeply toned at edges from the leather turn-ins. A little inconsequential chipping to the front endpaper and following leaf. Text is generally mildly toned.
