All maps are intact, some with occasional darkening at creases. Pencil notes on pockets. Book plate inside cover, library stamp on title page. Pp are VG, clean and unmarked. Original brown cloth, gilt lettering, footnotes; dozens of charts, lists and tables, [lv] + 588 pages; 14 b/w fold-out line sketches of panoramic views and geological sections including Grand Canyon and Vermilion Cliffs; 13 color plates of statistics and map symbols; 3 maps of Lake Bonneville Idaho, two in two colors; 5 three-color full-spread maps of mining areas of Nevada. ; Much on Grand Canyon of Arizona, Leadville of Colorado, Comstock Lode of Nevada. ; Additional chapters by Capt. Clarence E. Dutton, G. K. Gilbert, Arnold Hague, S. F. Emmons, Clarence King, Dr. R. D. Irving, George F. Becker, more. ; Exterior quite worn, mainly on backstrip (cloth over spine) which shows three cracks but is all readable. Rear board shows three light scrapes and a dent. 'To C. M. Field from James S. Vosseller, Clerk, Union County, New Jersey, March 27, 1885' penned on front endpaper. Same owner and date also penned on title page. One fold-out has closed tear to fore-edge that just enters printing, otherwise textblock is clean and intact. Both hinges worn, endpapers split along entire length, but boards well attached.
