First Edition Thick quarto in light brown cloth decorated in black. 580 [582] pages illustrated by photographs. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR - "THANKS, BERT" - ON THE FRONT ENDPAPER. The lithography and printing were performed by companies in Pierre S. Dakota, but it appears the book was self published. It consists of typescript and copies of newspaper articles. Most of the text is taken from the author's collection of oral histories of the range cattle industry in the Dakotas and Wyoming. Laid in is a facsimile of the 1884 announcement of the years round- ups organized by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. There is a previous owner name on the front endpaper along with a spot of soiling. The binding appears fine but it feels a bit shaken and there is a slight lean. Today only a dozen copies are known. A facsimile of the original cover is on the ffep and the rfep has copy of the map that was the back cover of the original booklet. Carl Hertzog was the printer of this edition, Buck Schiwetz did the drawings and Jeff Dykes wrote the introduction, annotated the text, and prepared the appendix.
