I am Glad I Survived

Publisher: , 1972.
Book. Book condition: Very Good to Near Fine. Very Good. Trade paperback 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall No bibliographic information. "One August day in the morning in 1945, a pale, underfed woman of about fifty, penniless, homeless, in ragged clothes, with bandages still over all her body, stood motionless in front of her crushed-down, blackly burnt house. She seemed as if she had been talking to someone or praying. No one knows how long she stood there. No one passed by. Brushing off tears several times, she at last sat down on a nearby stone. As she sat thinking, suddenly, like a miracle, she was awakened from her nightmare of recent events. Full of strength, she arose and exclaimed to herself, 'I have been wrong! I have been wrong! I should not be patriotic only to the country to which I belong! I must cry out for world peace.'.." The author was critically burned during the bombing of Kobe, Japan, during World War II. Book is in English with several letters to friends written in Japanese. 94 pages. Book is in NEAR FINE condition. Paper wrappers.
