Lamb, Jack
How to Catch Ol' John Bass
 Picture
Publisher: Jack Lamb, 1937.
Book. Book condition: Good. Trade paperback Signed by Author(s) 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall SIGNED by author. This is a RARE title that is very difficult to find! "While this work deals specifically with means and methods of outwitting the black bass, there is a considerable similarity in the application of artificial bait fishing for all game fish. In addition to catching an aggregate of 50, 000 black bass, the author has caught innumerable fish of other species on the same kind of tackle, both in salt water and in fresh water. Practically all American waters contain some species of game fish, and the underlying fundamentals and prime factors of artificial bait fishing as set out herein apply to all of them. Slightly different tactics are naturally necessary in different waters, but once the rudiments are learned, it will be found that game fish everywhere are closely related in their habits and actions, and all succumb to the artificial lure..." Lamb writes in extraordinary detail about strategies for different waters, weather, etc., but with an folksy manner. Illustrated in black-and-white. 190 pages. Book is in GOOD condition; some aging and tanning of pages, as expected of a book of this age and genre, but otherwise in VERY GOOD condition. Paper wrappers.

How To Dress Salmon Flies: A Handbook for Amateurs
 Picture
Publisher: Adam and Charles Black, 1914 London.
Book. Book condition: Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall "It will be admitted generally taht for the purpose of learning the art of dressing flies one hour's practical demonstration by an expert will be of more service than whole volumes of written directions. Nevertheless, the latter are, I think, of some use, and will at least serve the purpose of permanently recording certain points of manipulation to which attention may have been drawn in a practical demonstration which are apt to escape the memory. Verbal precept, backed up though it mayt be by ocular demonstration, will, by itself, be of no more permanent service than the mere written word. Whether you endeavour to learn by spoken or by printed instructions, you will never achieve success without constant practice on your own account; and though the fingers of an expert will in five minutes make clear what you may never have been able to understand from a book, the latter, if supplied by good diagrams, will be quite sufficiently helpful in enabling you to acquire familiarity with and ultimately proficiency in the handling of silks, furs, and feathers. The difficulty, however, is to be able to record in writing the various manipulations in concise and unequivocal terms..The fly-dressing part proper of the book begins at Chapter IV.." Containing twelve full-page illustrations - eight of them in colour - and one hundred and one other figures in the text. 248 pages. Book is in GOOD or better condition. No dust jacket.

Scott, Genio C.
Fishing In Ameican Waters
 Picture
Publisher: The American News Company, 1875 New York.
Book. Book condition: Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall A new edition, containing parts six and seven, on Southern and miscellaneous fishes. "..I have endeavored to portray the recreations of the angler in America, with his implements and his game; adding a small tribute to the temperate and industrious class of men who follow for a livelihood the hazardous business of fishing on the braod seas. An outline of the progress of fish-culture in Europe and America is also given, with pencil sketches illustrative of the art of hatching and rearing fishes, including stairs and fish-passes for enabling fishes to surmount mill-dams and falls. The fishes of our coast and estuaries, and the peculiar methods adopted for their capture, form not only a sealed book to Europeans, but to those anglers in America also who confine their recreations to fresh-water attractions. Each game fish affords a distinct interest, with peculiarities worth studying. My sketches may lack artistic finish, but possess the merit of correct outline; and in the words of Raphael, 'The outline is the picture.' The reader may be assured that fishing, whether for recreation or gain, entices its votaries to unexplored sources of revenue and pleasure.." Over 200 illustrations. xiv + 539 pages with index.
