Lucas, Henry Stephen, editor
Dutch Immigrant Memoirs and Related Writings
Publisher: 1997. Very Good+ with no dust jacket; New book, never been read, with some light cover wear to edges and corners and mild creasing of cover near corners. Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company Paperback 2.5 x 9.5 x 6.25 Inches; Contains 114 first-person accounts that describe the immigrant experience through letters, diary entries, addresses, formal writing, and other direct sources. This book begins with writings from 1846 with those coming to Dutch settlements such as Holland, Michigan, and concludes with an examination for later Dutch migrations to Iowa, illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The selections are presented in the original Dutch and then translated. The reformed faith of the immigrants shines through their work, although Catholic immigrants are also represented, since Lucas himself converted to Catholicism later in life after becoming disillusioned with the increasing liberalism taking over most Protestant denominations.; ISBN: 0802842240
