Publisher: New York Public Library, 1928; reprint Martino 2001. This bibliography of printed works of Ethiopia begins with Potken's publication (Rome, 1513) of his edition of the Psalter, the first book printed in Europe in the Ethiopic language and character. Among its approximately 1400 entries, this bibliography cites the editio princeps of the Ethiopic New Testament (two volumes, Rome, 1548/49); the first grammar of the Ethiopic language, Marianus Victorius' Chaldeae sive Aethiopicae linguae institutiones (Rome, 1552); and the lexicon and grammar of the distinguished scholar Hiob Ludolf, whose work laid the foundation for scientific study of the language. 8vo, vi, 87 p., binder's cloth; new from the publisher. Fumagalli, Giuseppe.
Bibliografia Etiopica [Bibliography of Ethiopia]. Catalogo Descrittivo e Ragionato degli Scritti… fino a tutto il 1891.
Publisher: Milano, Hoepli, 1893; reprint Martino 2002. Besterman 2067. Like most European powers in the late nineteenth century, Italy was determined to secure territories in Africa. The Treaty of Uccialli between Ethiopia and Italy was negotiated in 1890 in two versions, one in Italian declaring Ethiopia an Italian territory and one in Amharic permitting the king of Ethiopia to call upon Italy in time of need but saying nothing about its new territorial status. This wretched arrangement provoked a war in which the Italian army was crushed at Adwa in March 1896. Fumagalli’s bibliography cites 2758 printed items with annotations. Oversize 8vo, iii-xi, 288 p.; binder’s cloth; new from the publisher. (1052x)

Meroë, The City of The Ethiopians; Being An Account Of A First Season's Excavations On The Site, 1909-1910
Publisher: Mansfield Center, CT : Martino Pub,. 2009.. viii, 94 p. LXXIV pl. (incl. front., plans, partly fold.), 29 cm. Title continues: " by John Garstang. With an introduction and chapter on decipherment by the Rev. A. H. Sayce, and a chapter on the inscriptions from Meroë by F. Ll. Griffith. Photographic illustrations by Horst Schliephack." Several distinct cemeteries lie east of the ancient city of Meroe, located in the north of the modern state of Sudan. The distribution of burials and differences in grave styles, ranging from simple pit burials to pyramid capped tombs, as well as the variety of artifacts accompanying the burials, represent complex patterns from which chronological and socioeconomic inferences can be derived. Facsimile reprint of the Oxford, Clarendon press, 1911. edition. Stock# 1070x. Fine, new from publisher.
