The Passover (An Interpretation)
 Picture
Publisher: R. F. Fenno & Company, 1910 New York.
Book. Book condition: Very Good. Good to Very Good. Hardcover 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall This is an original copy, not a recent reprint of print-on-demand. "The literary style is charming. The descriptions are beautiful without being extravagant, and put one in touch with the country, the homes of the people and the city in which the story is laid. The language is pure and elegant, and to the student should be a source of constant delight. The story discloses an intimate knowledge of the manners and customs of the Jews at the time of Christ, and in its telling brings to the reader a realization of the every day incidents that undoubtedly crowded about the Master after His fame began to spread throughout Palestine. It is a side of Christ and His work that should be more widely studied and exploited. The paintings of Tissot gave the world a different view of Christ and his surroundings than was ever before realized. Why should not literature enforce and emphasize these human heart-interest features, and through expositions of this nature put us in closer touch with the every-day life of this man God? This is presuming of course that the work is performed by those who approach the subject with reverence and intelligence, as in the case with the author of The Passover. The hint that Judas was lead to betray Christ because of jealousy on discovering that Mary had loved the Master is ingenious, making a story of great power, rivaling Ben-Hur - and this, too, without being 'sensational' or irreverent." 259 pages. Book is in VERY GOOD condition. Dust jacket is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition; some wear to top edges.

CEREMONY OF INNOCENCE

Publisher: Harcourt, Brace & Company, NY, 1949.
Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. First American Edition. 1. Hard Cover Publisher's full cloth, gilt lettering on spine. 8vo. 248 pp. This is an unmarked copy with very light shelf-wear only. The unclipped dust jacket (now in Mylar) is lightly chipped at the head and heel of the spine and the corners. NEAR FINE/VERY GOOD. "Ceremony of Innocence is the story of the novice Sybil, who comes from England to join the Anglican convent at Geldersburg. The other nuns, old Sister Lillian in particular, soon notice that Sybil's strange spiritual powers include the gift of clairvoyance. While on an errand of mercy with Sister Lillian, Sybil meets Tearlach Heriot, brilliant, riotous young Irish writer and scoffer of religion; their destinies, Sybil hints, are bound together. After healing an incurable spastic, Sybil's fame as a miracle-worker sweeps the countryside, the convent is besieged by cure-seekers, and consternation reigns within the religious community." A brilliant satire on the hypocrisy and insincerity of modern civilization which inhibit spiritual growth. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
