16 p., illus. throughout; 28 cm. Twenty works by López Olivo (b. 1947). "In this selection of López Oliva's work, dating from 1993 to 2003, one detects an increasing complexity... a seemingly endless layering of thought and paint that López Olivo himself attributes to his habit of listening to classical music and operas in his studio while he works. Short, repetitive bursts of color and long fibrous strands... weave visages and vistas of another universe..." Color pictorial paper covers; fine. stock#44852.

Lara, Juan.
Juan Lara: Retrospectiva Mexicana.
 Picture
Publisher: Mexico: n.p. [Casa Domecq por la Federacion Nacional de Charos], 1991..
243 pp, [1]. Sm. 4to. (9.5 x 11 inches). Illustrated gray cloth. First edition. Illus. with over 200 color plates + 11 color & b/w photos. A thorough retrospective of the impressionist Andalusian artist Juan Lara (1921-1995). The first section of forty paintings (commission by Casa Domecq) documents the world of Charreria (the Mexican festive event that incorporates equestrian competitions and demonstrations, specific costumes and horse trappings, music, and food). It is perhaps the best representation of its subject in the latter half of the 20th century. A portion of this section was last exhibited at the Autry Museum in 2001 and is now housed at Cultural Institute Domecq. Other sections include "Mercadillos y Pueblos Rosas Mexicanos", "Pueblos Blancos Andaluces, " "Haciendas de Ganado Bravo, " "El Caballo en Mexico, " "Antologica en el Puerto- Espana, " and "La Casa Domecq, " a series of sketchs. Very hard to find. OCLC and RLIN list only 7 copies together and we have seen none for sale in the last ten years. A near fine copy with some minor soiling to the front board in a near fine dust jacket but for a few tiny tears to the top edge. Plates crisp and bright. A handsome copy.

Nohra Haime Gallery, New York. Yau, John. [Sutil, Francisca, b. 1952]
Francisca Sutil: Spaces. October 6-November 6, 1999. Works on Canvas; Works on Paper.

Publisher: N.Y., Nohra Haime Gallery, 1999.
[19] p., 12 color reproductions; 27 cm. Two-part exhibition. Part one, works on canvas, was held at the Nohra Haime Gallery; the second, works on paper, at Grant Selwyn Fine Art. With a critical essay by John Yau. "Done on raw, earth-colored linen, 'Spaces' consists of vertical bands of color which are not only abutted together, but seem to overlap, as well as subtly interact. The narrow bands (or strips) of glowing color remind one of semi-transparent ribbons separating one room (or realm) from another. Stopped well short of the painting's top and bottom edge, the narrow bands manage to assert their independence, even as they acknowledge their dependence on the surface. ...As with 'Cerebrations', all the 'Spaces' are palimpsests." Color pictorial paper covers; VG. Stock#37768.
