Histoire de l'Art Pendant la Renaissance. III. Italie. La Fin de la Renaissance. Michel-Ange, Le Corrège, Les Vénitiens.
Publisher: Paris, Hachette, 1895. Vol 3 of 3. 757 p., 466 illustrations in text, 32 plates, 30 cm. A history of Italian Renaissance art arranged by the structure established by Vasari three centuries earlier: the primitive beginnings, the golden age, and the full-blown late period. Muntz's first volume was published in 1889 and he includes sculpture, medals, prints besides paintings in his assessment. This was the most ambitious work of its kind produced up to that time. Images of the Madonna and Child by Three Tuscan Artists of the Early Seicento: Vanni, Roncalli, and Manetti.
Publisher: Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, Me. [c1986; Meriden-Stinehour Press]. Occasional Papers III. 41, [1] p., 26 b/w text illus.; 25.25 cm. "By solving the question of attribution, by connecting the drawings with specific moments in each artist's career, and by pointing out nuances of subject and treatment, we have gained more precise understanding of the circumstances of their creation and the purposes for which they were created. These drawings have therefore become more useful documents in charting the development of early Baroque styles and in following an important current of Christian imagery."
