Quarto, about 10.25 inches (26 cm) tall, in orange cloth with an enclosed ring binding for purposes of use at the piano. The books are sequential and there are 187 and 189 pages respectively. A clean, bright and sound copy with just a touch of extremity wear. The jacket has minor chipping at and and adjacent to the spine ends, general edge wear and a couple of very short tears. Words and music collected by the major figure of the 1930s in the family that produced Tabasco Sauce. A scholarly effort, the author was also a noted naturalist. Bookplate on the front endpaper, that of Louis Brewer Hall, an author and literature professor at the University of Colorado - Denver. In 1980 the Belgian-born writer became the first woman elected to the Academie Francaise. Dust jacket illustration is "Tete de negre" by Thomas Eakins.
