This Is Haddonfield
 Picture
Publisher: The Historical Society of Haddonfield, 1963 Haddonfield, NJ.
Book. Book condition: Good. Good. Hardcover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall "This Is Haddonfield portrays the life history of a charming, old town whose roots were laid in 1713 as one of the early Quaker settlements in the province of West New Jersey. One finds the antecedents of the village in a brief resume of the early Swedish, Dutch and English periods of the colony, followed by the birth of the Haddon settlement and its gradual development through 250 years. The volume is a compilation of articles, some old, many new, on persons, places, things, and events. Together with the history of the village which grew into today's thriving borough, and the story of Elizabeth Haddon and other early personalities, there are descriptions of many old houses, former inns, taverns and mills. Included are accounts of the schools, public and private, of the library and the old Library Company, of the Fire Department, churches, and civic organizations. Amusing and interesting extracts from The Basket, a weekly newspaper published in Haddonfield in the 1880s are here reprinted. Written particularly to fill the need for an authentic history of the town for use in the schools, to young and adult alike this work is a treasure house on the heritage of the past and also a reference source for questions of the present." Illustrated. Large fold-out map is attached to rear endpaper. 289 pages with index. Book is in good or better condition. Dust jacket is in Fair to Good condition; some discoloration and edgewear.

Collingswood (NJ): The First One Hundred Years, 1888-1988
 Picture
Publisher: Privately Published, 1988 Collingswood, NJ.
Book. Book condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 4to - over 9 - 12" tall Collingswood is located in Camden County, New Jersey. "Anyone with an iota of historical perspective would recognize the impossibility of putting one-hundred years of Collingwood history into a few pages. There is hardly a year in the town's chronology which wold not make a long chapter in itself. The century has been marked with dynamic individuals and unforgettable events. The ensuing pages will highlight a few of those exciting personalities and stirring occurrences..In attempting to put together this brief effort on the Collingswood Centennial, I could not help but observe one thread which has encompassed every era. Despite all the social, political, economic and technological changes which have occurred in the past century, the residents of every generation have evidenced a strong town pride." 168 pages. Book is in VERY GOOD or better condition. No dust jacket (as issued).

Called To Duty: Recollections of Atlantic County Veterans
 Picture
Publisher: Atlantic County Government, 2000 Atlantic County, NJ.
Book. Book condition: `Fair to Good. Trade paperback 4to - over 9 - 12" tall Introduction by County Executive Dennis Levinson. "Called To Duty..is the story of everyday Atlantic County citizens who served our country during times of war. To a large extent, Harvey Johnson, a resident of Northfield and a graduate of Pleasantville High, is responsible for this project. Harvey was killed in World War II. He died a heroic death and in recognition of his valor, the American Legtion Post 295 in Northfield was named in his honor. His story is one of the many contained in this book..As time passes and the distance in years from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War increases, our younger citizens become less and less aware of how these events traumatically affected ordinary people. I wanted present and future generations to read from first hand accounts how men and women, most of whom were very young, were called upon to make great sacrifices for their country. I wanted them to learn how others in their community, who once walked in the same streets and went to the same schools, were called upon to perform extraordinary service. Each of the individuals profiled in this book is a 'hero'. Some were killed in battle. Some were wounded and lived to tell the tale. Others simply served as they were ordered to, always aware of the demands of duty and why they were fighting.." This unusual book includes the stories of veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. 168 pages with index. Book is in FAIR to GOOD condition. Soiling and excessive wear to cover. Paper wrappers.

Book. Book condition: Fair. Trade paperback 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall "'Collingswood Story' is a history-profile of a community. It is the story of 1, 340 acres of American territory..Collingswood, as Collingswood, bordered on the north and south by the waterways of Copper and Newton Creeks is, 'as the crow files', the closest true suburb to America's fourth largest city, Philadelphia. While it may lack, in name value, the historic color of Bunker Hill, Gettysburg, or the Alamo, it remains in the finest American tradition, a notable, satisfying American-living community, populated by God-fearing, law-abiding people with a Colonial background and spirit of which its residents may be everlastingly proud. Felt, David
Album : (Autograph Album of Miss Sarah J. Ross, Essex, New Jersey, 1840s)
 Picture
Publisher: David Felt; N. Y. : 1840.
Fair with no dust jacket Hardcover 96 pages; 8vo (8.25") 21 cm; Hardcover, red leather spine and tips, gilt title and decor on spine, marbled boards, 96 unnumbered pages, blank, except 18 pages have small decorative b/w engravings. ; This item was published by David Felt, New York and Boston, circa 1840. The original bookseller's name was W. W. Groesbeeck of Albany, New York, whose label is on front endpaper. ; This is an early autograph album used by one Miss Sarah J. Ross of Essex, New Jersey (or New York, hard to tell) who wrote her name on front endpaper. In it she collected notes of friendship. 7 pages plus rear endpaper have original poetry or greetings neatly penned or penciled in different hands, addressed to Sarah or Sall. One lengthy poem begins, On thee may all life's blessings rest, and is signed Sincerely, Your Friend, [illegible], Burlington, 1842. One is signed MEB. One very sweet poem is signed J. A. Mitchell. (In those days, people took their time and composed literary gems, unlike today when all you get is Roses are red or Have a nice day); We have graded this item Fair. Boards are rubbed and faded. Leather is chipped at extremities, with about a half inch missing at crown. 2 leaves are clipped out and missing, with stubs visible. Binding is tight. A unique item. Sold as is.

Book. Book condition: Very Good. Very Good. Hardcover 4to - over 9 - 12" tall "This fascinating history traces the development of Pennsauken Township from the early Indian civilizations to its importance in a modern world. Pennsauken's story is an adventure of one community, and how it developed its educational, religious, and governmental organizations. A refreshingly different approach has been used to portray the past by giving the reader a background of the private lives of the early citizens as well as some of those living today. Nearly 150 illustrations, many unpublished before, including forty original sketches, provide the reader with a visual understanding of the text. Older folks can relive the days of yesteryear, while young people will find this book an excellent aid in their school preparations." Very well illustrated. 157 pages with index. Book. Book condition: Good to Very Good. Good. Hardcover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall "This major contribution to social welfare history is unique both in scope and in method. From colonial beginnings, it traces the development of poor law and state welfare institutions in a matrix of local and voluntary efforts, and it shows how nineteenth-century ideas about 'charity and corrections' were transformed into twentieth-century public welfare. It is, in addition, a piece of distinguished historical writing in the broader field of American social history, and by its focus upon a single colonial state it achieves an admirable concreteness of theme and treatment.." xii + 500 pages with index. Publisher: Atlantic City Press, 1970 Atlantic City, NJ.
Book. Book condition: Good. Trade paperback 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall First edition (stated). "This work is not meant to be a complete history of Atlantic City. Such a history would fill several volumes. It is, rather, a history of the early town, its beachfront and Boardwalk, the people who helped to create it, those who were touched by its magic charm, and those whose ambitions and dreams made the wooden way the world famous esplanade it is today. I have tried to paint the past hundred years of the Boardwalk much as an artist who is secretly in love with his model. The good Lord, in His wisdom, gae Atlantic City its unsurpassed white sand beaches and ocean; man created its Boardwalk. It was a wedding of perfection.." Illustrated. 248 pages with index.
