Thackeray, W.M. [William Makepeace] .
Vanity Fair.

Publisher: New York: H.M. Caldwell, 1900..
Reprint Octavo, about 9 inches tall, in green cloth elaborately decorated in green, blue, gilt and red with the front cover picturing a peacock. 770 pages illustrated by photographs from an 1899 stage production of "Becky Sharp" as well as 186 illustrations by the author. The cover designer is not identified but it is a gorgeous Art Nouveau example of the best publisher bindings of the period. Laid in is a picture of Mrs. Fiske as Becky Sharp. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed and the fore edge was opened clumsily although there is no damage to the text. The covers are bright but lightly soiled; the binding is sound. However the foot band (the decorative cloth strip at the bottom of the spine of the textblock which would match the head band) is missing. Hardcover Hardcover Very Good+
