German Prisoners in Great Britain
Tillotson & Son Art Printers, Bolton & London, nd., ca.1917?, 8"x10-1/2", wraps, 62pp., all photos of happy, frollicing german POWs. Photos originally taken for the Wurtemberg War Exhibition by the photographic section of the Royal Flying Corps. covers detached but present, badly waterstained, pages damaged from peeling apart - some peel-marked, some torn. Damage largely confined to margins, but not entirely. What redeems this at all is the quality of the photos - mostly half-page & very clear, not at all the newspaper quality reproduction one sometime gets in WWI pictorials. So still usable & interesting, but very poor condition. $

In May 1924 he was given command of the mounted infantry company of the 2nd R.E.I. & soon moved into action north of the border with Spanish Morocco to combat the raids of the Berber Riff leader Abd-el-Krim, who had raised the tribes against the Spanish. By Oct. 1924, Aage was appointed to the staff of Marshall Lyautey as Intelligence Officer. In April 1925, Abd-el-Krim invaded French Morocco with a large army, trained in part by German WW I veterans and Legion deserters. Aage participated in numerous hard fought actions in the mountains until he fell ill in Aug. 1925 & was evacuated to France, at which point the memoirs end. Aage continued to serve with the Legion in Morocco until his death in 1940. A key account for a study of the Legion by one of its most colorful officers.
