German Prisoners in Great Britain

Tillotson & Son Art Printers, Bolton & London, nd., ca.1917?, 8"x10-1/2", wraps, 62pp., all photos of happy, frollicing german POWs. Photos originally taken for the Wurtemberg War Exhibition by the photographic section of the Royal Flying Corps. covers detached but present, badly waterstained, pages damaged from peeling apart - some peel-marked, some torn. Damage largely confined to margins, but not entirely. What redeems this at all is the quality of the photos - mostly half-page & very clear, not at all the newspaper quality reproduction one sometime gets in WWI pictorials. A Brief History of the 13th Regiment Field Artillery of the United States Army 1917-1918-1919
 Picture
Publisher: , 1919.
Book. Book condition: Poor to Fair. Soft cover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall No bibliographic information is given. Foreword by B. M. Sawbridge, Maj. 13th FA. "This booklet is a statement of facts - it contains no heroic dynamics. It is a brief official record of the regiment you created. As you read of march and battle, your memories will build for you the things unsaid. It was not the spirit of the 13th Field Artillery to boast on the fields of France - you will find no invidious comparisons herein. To the regiment of the future you have bequeathed this, its record - a heritage for the years that are to come. May the reading of it recall to you that the 13th Field Artillery trained, marched, and fought as a regular army regiment 'Without Fear, Favor, or the Hope of Reward'." A large fold-out map showing the areas of activity of the 13th Field Artillery in France during World War I is attached to the back cover. 45 pages. Book is in Poor to Fair condition; soiling; damage to top left corner of front cover and first several pages. Paper wrappers; stapled binding.

Botchkareva, Maria and Levine, Isaac Don
Yashka: My Life as Peasant, Officer and Exile
 Picture
Publisher: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1919 New York.
Book. Book condition: Poor to Fair. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall Botchkareva was Commander of the Russian Women's Battalion of Death. This is her autobiography. "in the early summer of 1917 the world was thrilled by a news item from Petrograd announcing the formation by one Maria Botchkareva of a women's fighting unit under the name of 'The Battalion of Death.' With this announcement an obscure Russian peasant girl made her debut in the international hall of fame. From the depths of dark Russia Maria Botchkareva suddenly emerged into the limelight of modern publicity. foreign correspondents sought her, photographers followed her, distinguished visitors paid their respects to her. All tried to interpret this arresting personality. The result was a riot of misinformation and misunderstanding.." This book is Botchkareva's attempt to set the record straight. She became a soldier in the Russian Army before World War I. After being decorated for bravery several times she was allowed to form a Women's Battalion of volunteers. This unit fought for Russia against the Austrians and Russians. Later Botchkareva fought against the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War. xii + 340 pages. Book is in POOR to FAIR condition; serious damage to covering over spine. The binding is still good; text pages are clean; thus, the book is a good READING COPY. "Paste-on" pictorial cover; see photo. No dust jacket.
