THE CORLEY MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY TO CRIPPLE CREEK

Publisher: No Publisher Colorado Springs.
Folded brochure with B&W photo and red print on front panel. About 6-3/8 by 3-1/2 inches folded, opens to almost 14 inches with eight panes (four per side) containing nice B&W photos of the road and views (including late teens and early 20s automobiles) . The piece is not dated, but autos depicted are from the 1920s. Originally built as a short-line railroad which failed, the route was purchased by W.D. Corley and turned into a tourist toll road called the Corley Mountain Highway, which he operated until he turned it over to the Forest Service in 1939, a precondition of his original purchase. The route fell into disrepair in the 1960s but apparently has been, or is in the process of becoming, repaired and restored.
