Lockhart, Thomas F.
Musings on the Mysteries of Life...or Ideas of an Invalid
Publisher: The Franklin Printing and Publishing Company, 1903 Atlanta, GA.
Book. Book condition: Fair. Soft cover 24mo - over 5 - 5" tall This is a RARE title that is very difficult to find! "The author of this book was stricken down by the merciless hand of disease at a very early age in life, and has practically no education save what he has been enabled to pick up through miscellaneous reading; therefore he feels a hesitancy in presenting his ideas, so crudely expressed, before the critical eyes of his readers, - which, by the way, he fears will be a limited number. However, he feels that they will be lenient and overlook any deficiency in education and theological views, when they realize the deplorable fact that the writer has never left his home in sixteen years, nor heard a sermon in all his thirty-one years of life. He never tried to broaden his ideas or improve his mind by reading solid literature, from the fact that every year he fully expected would be his last on earth. As the world is already flooded with good religious books from the pen of brilliant writers, it may occur to the reader that there is no excuse for inflicting this little book on the public. But the writer has a motive which he thinks commendable, even though his woeful lack of ability is so plainly evident. He desires to speak of word for God, whenever and wherever it is possible to do so, tho' he fully realizes that his weak, puny pen will do very little towards checking the downward trend of the world. But whenever one does the best he can, it is all the Lord requires. 'Where there is little given there is little expected.'..In writing even a small booklet repetition is almost unavoidable, as the writer quite frequently forgets what he has written. Realizing that only a few short years can elapse before the author will behold King Jesus in all His glory he reluctantly bids his reader a last farewell, desiring above all else in life that he will meet them in that city whose maker and builder is God." 160 pages. Book is in only FAIR condition; aging and shelfwear; spine reinforced. Paper wrappers.

Niemeyer, Mary A.
Light in Darkness: Autobiography of Mary A. Niemeyer
Publisher: J. B. Kippincott & Co., 1876 Philadelphia, PA.
Book. Book condition: Fair to Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 12mo - over 6 - 7" tall Revised by Sara S. Rice. "It is not supposed you have opened this book to read, expecting to find rare intellectual pleasure, or the gratification of any sense of thrilling romance. Were this so, its lids should be at once closed, and its very name forgotten. It is a life-history, not startling in any degree, but its object has been to show, thought He afflict, how good God is. Truly there has been light in darkness all the way along. We have hoped to serve His cause int he lessons drawn even from the small events of lie and we trust the modest messenger may bear some not of cheer to hearts that have known earthly sorrow, and enliven, perhaps, for an evening fireside hour, the gathered family group." 223 pages. Book is in FAIR to GOOD condition; a bit more wear than we like to see. No dust jacket.
