Elmer, Robert P.
Archery
 Picture
Publisher: The Penn Publishing Company, 1926 Philadelphia, PA.
Book. Book condition: Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall Probable first edition. Elmer was formerly the champion archer of the United States. "This book is an attempt to place before the public the science and art of archery as they have been revealed to me by fifteen years of study. I believe that it is quite possible for one who is wholly ignorant of the subject, but who has average mentality and mechanical aptitude, to become an expert in archery with no other help than this volume offers him. Any hobby that is ridden enough will lead its master into many by-paths. Some of these I have found so interesting that I ha ve felt justified in disclosing them to others; peering backward through the vistas of history, wandering in distant lands, or groping through tortuous trails of speech. I have treated of archery in modern civilization only with relation to inanimate targets, where all my experience lies, and have left the great subject of hunting wild animals with the bow and arrow to those who have followed that noble sport even through the Valley of the Shadow of Death.." Well illustrated with sketches and photographs. 456 pages with index. Book is in GOOD or FAIR condition; note discoloration to cover. No dust jacket.

Hill, Howard, Illustrated by: Naylor, Raymon
Hunting the Hard Way
 Picture
Publisher: Wilcox and Follett Company, 1953 Chicago, IL.
Book. Book condition: Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall Howard Hill, the author, is described as "the world's foremost archer." "The beginnings of archery are lost in the mists of antiquity...Today many good books may be found that treat of the technical side of the sport and tell how to make bows and arrows. Target archery, as practiced at tournaments in various countries, is a highly specialized branch and been fully treated by numerous authors. The same is true of flight archery - shooting for distance records - which is a fascinating branch of the sport, having many exponents in America. All these aspects of archery are interesting, and I have tried them all. It is not my aim, however, to write either a history of the development of archery or a book extolling the beauties and fascination of the weapon that has now become a plaything. Neither is it my intention to set forth technical instructions to the budding archer. My purpose is to give a simple account of personal experiences while hunting with the bow. Because these experiences date back over a period of twenty-odd years, I will recount them more or less in the order of their occurrence..A few of the chapters in this volume regarding the methods I have used in field archery and in stalking may, I hope, be of some help to other hunters with the bow and arrow.." Illustrated with both sketches and black-and-white photographs. 318 pages. Book is in GOOD condition. No dust jacket.

Appr.: | AUD 98.61 CAD 96.05 EUR 67.73 GBP 54.14 JPY 8,500.00 MXN 1,062.50 ZAR 923.91
