Clement, Lee, editor. [Young, Andrew]
Andrew Young at the United Nations. Edited by Lee Clement.

Publisher: Salisbury, N.C., Documentary Publications, 1978. series: Lost Documents on the Third Reich Volume III.
xxvii, 189 p. Andrew Young served as United States Ambassador to The United Nations from February 1977. This is a collection of 15 speeches by the former civil-rights activist during his first year. ”Certainly the hallmark of Young's first year in office was his almost single-handed efforts toward the reshaping of United States policy toward Africa.” He made human rights the central issue of American foreign policy. His making of his own policy and shooting from the hip showed his rejection of traditional diplomatic attitudes and helped give the Carter Administration its aura of do-good amateurism. Dj; VG. The Principle of Truth
 Picture
Publisher: Philosophical Library, 1960 New York.
Book. Book condition: Good. No Jacket. Hardcover 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall "Our power to manipulate the physical environment has outdistanced our sense and our ability to et along with our fellow men. Thus today we possess such a weapon as the hydrogen bomb which can destroy whole cities, and which some fear may release radioactivity sufficient to sterilize future generations. We are faced with the possibility of an end to life - yet the world is split into two armed camps which only continue to arm. We are aware that the blame lies to a large extent in the hands of Soviet Russia, the headquarters of one camp; we are also aware that the United States, the headquarters of the other camp, is far from blameless. But regardless of where the blame lies, we are faced with a horrible and perhaps world-destroying war unless we combine or disarm the two camps. Otherwise either major power or a minor power seeking its own selfish interests may precipitate the dreaded conflict. Indeed, regardless of the challenge we may feel to our welfare, it does not make sense to continue the present state of tension. Yet we do; and the reason we do is that we often govern our policies subjectively, selfishly, and short-sightedly. We have used science to conquer much of our physical environment, but we have failed to really apply science to our social and political institutions. Fortunately, man has innate sense, and blunderingly does right in the long run. The trouble is that we do not have a self-conscious realization and consensus of what is right. Thus, although we have many basic agreements with our enemies, we become inflamed regarding the differences. If men were aware of the essences which they hold in common with other men, there would be less excuse for the basically selfish reasons we fail to get along. It is time for mankind to mature; we must inspect ourselves candidly, and try to establish a proper science for ourselves rather than retreating into rationalizations and magic. I believe that this work offers the framework we need for a science of mankind. It presents what I feel is a true and correct touchstone for right and wrong. It offers a scientific foundation for society. It will seem vaguely familiar, because it cuts across the intuitive root from which branched many of our philosophies, religions, and other institutions. For the first time, I believe, it states this root self-consciously, demonstrates it, and offers it for our use.." 110 pages. Book is in GOOD condition. No dust jacket.

Mayers, David Allan, 1951-
Cracking the Monolith: U.S. Policy Against the Sino-Soviet Alliance, 1949-1955
 Picture
Publisher: Baton Rouge, Louisiana State University Press, ©1986.
[xv], 176 p.; 24 cm. "Relying on documentary evidence collected from the National Archives and presidential libraries, [Mayer] demonstrates that throughout the early 1950s America's response to the Sino-Soviet alliance conformed to the modus operandi of classical diplomacy: the United States attempted to divide its enemy by drawing China, the weaker party, away from Russia. With the advent of the Korean War, that policy, subtle and sound but ultimately ineffective, had to be dropped. ...Mayers demonstrates that a host of domestic factors-- most notably McCarthyism-- restrained the Truman and Eisenhower administrations from implementing more creative, and potentially more effective, policies."
