The Genuine Works of Hippocrates
Publisher: The Williams & Wlkins Company, 1946 Baltimore, MD. Book. Book condition: Good to Very Good. Fair to Good. Hardcover 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall Translated from the Greek by Francis Adams; introduction by Ererson Crosby Kelly, M.D. "A book that is always welcome because its message has remained true and alive through 2500 years. Presented as a connected picture of medicine in the golden age of Greece. Free from technical annotations of former editions.Medical observation at its keenest. There hardly exist more accurate word pictures of sick men, more careful descriptions of their appearances. Shows a great physician at work who personifies the best type of present-day practitioner. His approach is direct. He leans toward the methods that are of practical value and toward those in the medical guild that practice their profession with assurance. Excels in complete descriptions of the onset, course, and outcome of diseases you treat today. You find realistic study for the first time freed from the religious aspects of suffering and from the fatalistic attitude which gave a sacred or demoniacal cause of man's ill health." viii + 374 pages with index. Book is in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. Dust jacket is in FAIR to GOOD condition; complete, but with significant tears and wear to edges.

Ladelci, Francesco [Pius IX]
Dimostrazioni Dei Principi Fondamentali Della Patologia E Della Terapia
Publisher: Roma, Clemente Puccinelli, 1852. 8vo; 87 p. Demonstrations of Fundamental Principles of Pathology and Therapy. The author was official physician to the Pope's Palatine Guard and dedicated this work to the Pope. This is the papal copy, bound in sumptuous red leather, extravagantly tooled in gold, with the papal arms on front and back covers. The Pope at this fateful period was Pius IX, who was beginning his reaction against the secularism of the 19th century. One can imagine that this book, which talks about the medical progress of the past century, would have been rejected by a man who abhorred progress. stock#OB79 (dr).
