Jagendorf began his memoir in the U.S. in 1956 (he and his wife arrived in 1946 and were reunited with their two daughters, who had fled Europe with their husbands in 1938 and 1939), but he failed to find a publisher. In 1988 one of Jagendorf's grandchildren brought the manuscript to light again. Aron Hirt-Manheimer spent the next two years analyzing translations of Romanian and German documents and interviewing Jagendorf family members and survivors of Moghilev. ISBN (10): 006016106X.
