First published in London by Geoffrey Bles in 1937 with the title 'Black Hamlet: The Mind of an African Negro Revealed By Psychoanalysis', a revised & enlarged edition was first published by Little, Brown in 1947 entitled 'Black Anger'. The title was changed to 'Black Hamlet' & the frontispiece eliminated in the second printing. Attractive bookplate on the front endpaper, spine slightly faded, bottom corners bumped with tip wear, bottom of spine slightly worn o/w Very Good, i.e. some signs of careful use with no significant defects. No dustjacket.

Hardcover 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall "Mr. Ziegler, now studying at the Harvard Medical School, graduated from Harvard College in 1941 with a Phi Beta Kappa and a magna cum laude degree. This essay was submitted by Mr. Ziegler to the History and Literature Department of Harvard College as the thesis required of undergraduate candidates for honors degrees. Professor F. O. Matthiessen, of the HIstory and Literature Department at Harvard, says of the worki: 'When I read Mr. Ziegler's essay in connection with his candidacy for honors at Harvard, I graded it summa cum laude. He has handled a difficult subject with great distinction. The maturity of his thought is shown by his ability to take some of the authorities on Browne, to profit by their views, and yet to see around them to new conclusions of his own." 105 pages. A calling card of Mr. Ziegler is laid in. Book is in VERY GOOD condition. Dust jacket is in protective plastic wrapper and is in VERY GOOD condition. A nice copy!
