Gilt decoration on spine, title on cover in gilt. 66 pages illustrated by drawings, a map, frontis engraving, and a foldout engraving. Apparently a collection of speeches of various notables on the crucial nature of Hedley's work in the development of the steam locomotive. Hedley's ideas were purportedly crucial although George Stephenson's importance is not denigrated. Covers have light soil and aging, some short tears and crease on overlapped edges, a few small chips (spine ends and lower cover corner), small stains at staples. A couple of page edges that extend beyond the others are roughened at the fore edge. Many pages are uncut (have not been separated for reading). Internally clean and unmarked.
