The book takes the reader on a series of journeys with contemporary Papago Indians through their traditional homelands in hte deserts of Arizona and Sonora. The reader visits a sacred cave, witnesses the cactus wine/rainmaking ceremony, works in the native bean fields and collect wild foodstuffs. The Papago's reveal what they know of desert rains, plant and animal lore, and their native agriculture. dj small chips at top & bottom of the spine, small chip on bottom edge of front panel, prev owner's name stamped on the ffep and on one of the papers of text. The prev owner was Dr. Jean Andrews, who was a professor at the University of Texas, and wrote several books on plants, sea shells and blue bonnets of Texas.
