Barnstone, Howard; Bresson, Henri Cartier; Stoller, Ezra
The Galveston That Was
Publisher: Macmillan Publishing Co., Inc. New York 1975.
Originally conceived as a requiem for the faded city, The Galveston That Was instead helped resurrect the city. Architect-author Howard Barnstone, renowned portrait photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, and architect-photographer Ezra Stoller captured the soul of the city in The Galveston That Was and, as a result, inspired a major and successful effort to restore Galveston's historic architectural treasures. Many of the buildings pictured in the book's 107 photographs have since been restored, and the pace of demolition slowed dramatically after the book's initial publication. Numerous buildings pictured were designed by the great architect Nicholas J. Clayton. 224 pages with line drawings and index. Size: 8-1/2" wide X 11-1/8" tall. A very good condition hardcover with light wear (no fraying) at the spine ends and lower corner tips, in a very good condition, very lightly worn dustjacket, now in a new mylar wrapper. The interior is clean and sturdy with no writing, underlining or other marks. Originally published in 1966, this copy is the 1975 3rd printing with the full-page (printed both sides) errata slip tipped in at the half-title page. 3rd Printing Very Good Hard Cover Very Good 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall

The Architects and the City: Holabird & Roche, Chicago, 1880-1918.
Publisher: Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1997.. First Edition ISBN: 0226076954 Quarter light brown cloth on black paper covered boards. 540 pages illustrated by photographs, maps, architectural drawings and elevations. A history of the one of the most important of Chicago's architectural firms (in a city full of important architecture) and the buildings they built during a crucial period in the city's development. This is no coffee table book, but a very readable scholarly treatise illustrated to make its points. A bright and clean book, soundly bound, but with some light scratches to the front cover. There is also a minor binding flaw: the front hinge has a bead of cloth sticking up where there is ordinarily a gutter or indentation. The jacket is barely rubbed. Clapham, A. W. [Alfred W.]
Romanesque Architecture in Western Europe
Publisher: Clarendon Press Oxford 1967.
"The intention has been to present a general survey of the architecture and architectural sculpture of each country during the period under review, with the idea of determining the local forms of Romanesque expression, rather than providing an account of the individual buildings. When a building or work has been the subject of controversy I have attempted to give some idea of the contending points of view and of my own conclusions on the matter in question." --from the Preface. xvi, 208 pages plus 21 pages containing 58 plans, 44 plates, maps, and index.
