Modoc Press, Inc. [Introduction by Leona Rostenberg & Madeleine B. Stern]
The Collector's Guide to Antiquarian Bookstores, Including Dealers of Out-of-Print and Used Books
Publisher: Macmillan New York 1984. Nearly 25 years after the publication of this book, how many of these bookshops and dealers are still in business? Through attrition and the arrival of the Internet, many of the old shops have disappeared, some survive online. This book, once a current directory, now offers an historical reference for most of what is listed. An interesting look at an evolving (or volatile) business. More than 1, 000 bookstores listed by state and province in the U. S. and Canada, with detailed store profiles. Nice introduction by Leona Rostenberg and Madeleine B. Stern. Wolf, Edwin II, 1911-1991
Rosenbach. A Biography.
Publisher: Cleveland, World, 1960.. 626 p,, illus., frontis. (port.), index, 24.5 cm. Biography of A. S. W. (Abraham Simon Wolf) Rosenbach, "Dr. R.", 1876-1952, bookseller of Philadelphia and New York. Wolf, who was related (see the Wolf in the subject's name) and worked in the business as a young man, was well positioned to write of the Doctor. To do so he needed to use the business archives, which were controlled by John Fleming, who had taken over ownership of the Rosenbach Company; thus the title says 'with the assistance of John Fleming'. But be sure that this is Ed Wolf's book and one can hear that strident voice in every line. First edition. stock# 43,080. Vg/ dj vg.
