Friedrich Eduard Bilz opened the "public light air bath" on 25 June 1905.' This liberally illustrated monument to hygiene discusses compresses, baths & showers, massage, first aid, exercise, healing herbs, ventilation, stoves & ovens for heat, melancholy, migraine, mushrooms, phrenology, orthopedics... The 16 pages at end are a pink advertising flyer for various baths. 2 p.l., 1943, 16 p., 723 text figures (incl. photos), 14 color plates, index; double color folding plate, folding group portrait plate & halftone portrait plate (Bilz) precede title-page. Mounted inside both covers are many-layer color folding anatomical overlays showing the human body (front cover; female and male) and the head (rear). Bound in brown boards stamped in black & gold, portrait of Bilz & his Baths on front cover; 24 cm.; backstrip carefully re-anchored with archival glue, edges & covers not too badly worn; pages darkened, edges brittle; a folding plate at p. 1536 lacks all after the fold; withal good+. 29518 {Fifi}
