Good with no dust jacket 1st English Edition Hardcover Translated by Edward Vizetelly and illustrated with eighty-eight wood engravings from original drawings by George Roux. Illustrated frontispiece, tissued. Dark blue boards with silver decorations, lettering, green blindstamping. One of only 100 published by Hutchinson in this first English edition. Top edge soiled, upper front corner and heel of spine lightly frayed, minor rubbing at front spine edge and on silver decorations. Good+ 1st Edition Hardcover Printed inscription reads: "To Sir Francis Freeling, Bart., The Great Patron of Letters, Foreign, General, and Twopenny; Distinguished alike by his fostering care of the Bell Letters, And his Antiquarian regard for the Dead Letters; --Whose increasing efforts to forward the spread of intelligence, as a Corresponding Member of All Societies, (and no man fills his Post better) have Singly, Doubly, and Trebly, endeared him to every class--This First Volume of The Comic Annual, Is, with Frank Permission, Gratefully Inscribed, by Thomas Hood. " Maroon leather spine, gilt lettering, paper illustrated boards. Steel engraving frontispiece plus 36 b/w plates. All edges gilt. Spine (gilt still brilliant) and covers rubbed, particularly at extremities; foxing. The frontispiece appears to have been pasted to the flypage many years ago (at time of publication perhaps? ) for there is a "chip" missing from the upper corner of the frontispiece on the illustrated side only.
