1928-29 prescription Record Book: California medical History
Publisher: Seabright California This 5x12-inch book has brown card covers, reinforced brad and cloth spine binding with paper label, and card weight pages. 50 pages, with c. 6-10 doctor-issued prescriptions adhered to each page (in staggered format). Apparently these were filled by the Seabright Pharmacy (Seabright, California) since many of the Rx are written on their prescription pad. Those written on Dr. prescription pads are mostly from Santa Cruz, with some other locations thrown in (Dinuba and Watsonville are a couple that I noticed.) Dates are from 1928 and 1929. Prescriptions include a lot of things we don't see these days - from charcoal and cod liver oil to strychnine. This seems like an excellent resource for discovering which doctors were practicing at the time, what sorts of things they prescribed, who they prescribed them for, and the general health and range of illnesses of members of the community. (Patient names are on many of them) Toning to the card pages and some of the Rx, wear to the spine cloth edges, one dark spot on the front cover. EPEHMERA 5085 Good Condition Ephemera

Publisher: University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia 1934 This 4.5 x 6 inch booklet is bound in dark green heavy paper covers. Unnumbered pages on coated stock, mostly B&W photos of the facilities and staff. The booklet proclaims, 'These are teh Laboratories of teh Cancer Reserach Fund on teh first of March, 1934. The main laboratories occupy the top floor of the Integrity Trust Building, 133 South 36th Street.' It goes on to add: ' One purpose of this booklet is to show other cancer research workers the type of study we are following so that there may be collaboration and no undue duplication of research..' The laboratories were started in 1930. The text notes, 'It is interesting to note the many differences in the laboratory apparatus that mark the advance of the research along lines of development.' Anyone familiar with research equipment these days will have a good chortle over the facilities and apparatus in these photos! In 1935 this facility became The Franklin Institute, Biochemical Research Laboratories. (I am listing additional booklets under the Franklin Institute name.) The booklet is in very good condition with modest wear to wraps. COLLECTIBLE 2644 First Edition Paperbound Very Good Condition 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall Collectible

THE BIOCHEMICAL RESEARCH LIBRARIES OF THE FRANKLIN INSTITUTE
Publisher: Biochemical Research Laboratories Philadelphia 1936 Heavy green paper wraps. 77 pages with a large section of B&W photos of the Laboratory's research facilities, equipment, etc. This booklet was published at the end of the first year of the former Cancer Research Laboratories change to The Biochemical Research Foundation, which had a broader interest in biochemical research, including enzymes. At this time the staff was composed of 51 members including chemists, physicists, cytologist, etc. The booklet includes a full list of personnel, as well as a list of articles published. The photo section has been expanded over previous similar volumes and includes photos of the cyclotron being assemebled in the 'subterranean laboratory.' Progress! (Better living through biochemistry?) The equipment and aparatus appears quaint and inadequate to modern eyes but this was where and how pioneering biochemical research was conducted. Some wear and fading to lapped cover edges, rubber stamp of the foundation on the cover, all else clean.
