Rarey, J. S.
THE MODERN ART OF TAMING WILD HORSES
Publisher: George Routledge and Co. London 1858 Printed yellow paper over stiff boards, with engraved portrait (presumably of J.S. Rarey, 'Wild Horse Tamer.') 2 {ads} + 63 +2 [ads} pages. A Routledge 'Cheap Edition.' Covers working with the wild colt, halters and haltering, leading, training to bit, saddling and mounting, breaking to harness, plus some tricks such as lying down, following. An Introduction gives a brief history of the horse. This method was based on kindness and on making the horse aware of your desires and helping him to understand commands, and introducing him to equipment so that it is not frightening. Rather enlightened for its day. The book is fragile (cheap edition indeed!) and lacking the spine strip (although the spine cloth is intact). First ad page is loose. Covers are soiled., edges worn especially at corners. Internally it is clean, with a tiny bookseller's label in the corner of the front paste-down for Callander & Dixon, Stationers, Whitehaven. This is a good candidate for some conservation or rebinding effort. COLLECTIBLE 3323 Reprinted from the American Edition No Dust Jacket (as issued) Hardcover Fair Condition 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall Collectible
