Green pebbled cloth with black overlay spine, gilt spine titles and blind embossed decoration. 396 + (12) [ads] pages, some small woodcuts illustrating heraldry. An odd topic for an 'American Edition' of this popular British school text, but perhaps they were reluctant to relinquish attachemnt to 'the colonies.' At any rate, subjects range widely in this little tome, from astronomy to 'heathen' mythology, English, Scottish, and French reigns, American history from its discovery to present, architecture, Greek history, Latin words and phrases. Wear at spine edges with chip at foot of spine, covers otherwise show little wear. Previous owner's name in school-girl Spencerian hand in oak gall ink on free endpaper. Advertising endpapers have penciled notes and name. All else clean and tight. Very little here that the average college graduate could answer these days! A real charmer!
