ELEMENTS OF STEAM ENGINEERING: 5 Volumes, Complete
Publisher: The Colliery Engineer Co. Scranton PA 1897 Prepared for students of The International Correspondence Schools. A complete set in five volumes, consisting of: Vol I: Arithmetic, Mensuration, Mechanics, Steam and Steam Engines, with Practical Questions and Examples; Vol II: Steam Boilers, Dynamos and Motors, with Practical Questions and Examples; Vol III: Mechanical Drawing; Vol IV: Tables and Formulas; Vol V: Answers to Questions. Volumes I, II, IV, and V are in 8vo format (about 9.25 x 6 inches); Vol III is a horizontal 4to (about 11.5 x 14, 5 inches.) All are in 3/4 leather with heavy brown pebbled cloth and black stained leather corners and spine, with titles stamped in gilt. All are stamped with their issue number, 9367, on the bottom margin of the title page, save for Vol III which is a replacement volume. All are marked First Edition, 1897, and have beautiful marbled endpapers and red stained edges. All volumes are in good condition, with some edgewear and the following: Vol I has a hint of waterstain in upper right corner of the page edges; Vol II has a similar small amount of stain in the upper right page endges, and a splot in the lower right corner of the first two leaves; the remaining volumes are free of stains but Vol V has some red marks on the upped edge of the front cover. Most of the edgewear is at corner tips and spine ends, there are a few faded spots or scraps on covers but nothing distracting (and most could be eliminated with appropriate leather dressing or color). This is a clean and presentable set, unusual to find in its complete state and especially with the pesky oversized volume on mechanical drawing (which presents its illustrations in large and appropriate format).
