First Edition Small hardback quarto, about 10 inches tall, in green cloth. 257 pages illustrated by 34 full page plates, 14 of which are color. A wonderful study of the varieties of the predominantly Asian bird. A little glue offset to the endpapers and previous owner name in pencil on front endpaper. Inside is otherwise clean and soundly bound. The covers are clean but the spine is somewhat dulled and darkened. There is a pronounced crease to the upper corner of the front cover. Ex-library with the remains of a spine label, a bookplate, two upc-type tags and a date stamp card all on the front endpaper, as well as a number in pencil on the title page. Certainly the seminal work on the subject from a premier natural history publisher. The inside is clean and sound except for the aforementioned library marks.
