Brown cloth with title & author's name in gilt lettering on the front cover & spine. Covers beveled with borders created from 2 vertical & 2 horizontal rulings in black. The horizontal rulings on the front cover extend over the spine joining those on the back. Dark brown endpapers. Engraved frontispiece with tissue guard of the author's brother & his faux signature. A Biography by the author of 'Tom Brown's School Days' of his brother, George Hughes, an English priest. Front flyleaf inscribed in ink 'Geo. P. Twitchill on his eighteenth birthday from his father, Keene, May 2, 1873'. The father, George Brooks Twitchell, was a physician practicing in Keene, NH. The son also became a physician in Greenfield, MA. Spine a little darkened & extremes rubbed, corner tips rubbed, front & back flyleaves foxed o/w Good, i.e. obvious signs of use with no major defects. See photo.
