Zaid, Gabriel
Los demasiados libros / The Too Many Books
Publisher: Col. Del Valle, México: Editorial Diana, 1996. First Edition. 22 X 14½ cm. Fine/No dj. Quarter brown cloth, dec. laminated paper-covered boards, gilt titles on spine & red on front board, 390, [1] pp. Limited edition of 1000 copies published to commemorate the publisher's 50th anniversary. The author stands the notion that books are unprofitable because too many are published on its head. Rather, because small editions of books are relatively cheap to produce, they are produced in much greater variety than films, television programs, or recorded music. Zaid also analyses the risks & rewards of various edition sizes, and finds that for most books, the apparent savings in large printings is an illusion. He also looks at why books will continue to attract readers, and proposes a law to promote books. Entire text is printed in both Spanish and English, with an illustration of Diana, the Huntress, opening each chapter. Shipping weight 2 lbs.
