Publisher: Tilt and Bogue London 1842 First Edition Very good+ in full polished tan calf covered boards by Riviere with five raised bands on the spine with gilt tool work with a gilt on black leather label in the compartments, gilt borders on the boards, gilt inside dentelles over dark blue paper end sheets. The top edge of the text block is gilt. The leather joints are worn and cracked but the hinges are tight and strong. The leather at the upper tips of the boards is worn through and there is a tiny 1/16" chip to the leather at the foot of the spine; and, there is an early prior owner's book plate on the front paste down. A small quarto measuring 9 1/8" tall by 5 1/2" deep containing 300 pages of text. Illustrated with twenty-two steel engraved plates and 78 wood engravings. Originally issued in wraps in nine individual parts. George Cruikshank (1792-1878), whose career spanned 60 years, was an English illustrator and caricaturist who was best known for his satirical portraits of English society and culture as well as being the illustrator for Charles Dickens' books: Sketches By Boz and Oliver Twist.Our code number = TB22867

New York 1898 Each volume of this twelve volume set is in very good+ to near fine condition each bound identically in 3/4 light brown calf with five raised bands on the spines with gilt tool work and small red and green leather title labels in the compartments with marbled paper covered boards. The end sheets continue the marble paper appearing on the boards and the top edges of the text blocks are gilt. Each volume is a 24 mo measuring 6" by 4" with an early prior owner's name written in ink in the gutter of the second free end page. Volumes X and XI are missing their small red leather title labels and red leather title label to volume 12 is chipped at its right side. Edited with introductions and notes by Charlotte Porter and Helen A. Clarke. Vol. I: Pauline-Paracelsus, Pippa Passes, King Victor and King Charles in 335 pages. London 1890 First Illustrated Edition Good + in the publisher's original green cloth covered boards with gilt text and decorations on the spine and with the same elaborate gilt work on the front board. All edges of the text block are gilt. The cloth at the lower fore edges of the boards has worn through; and, although the front hinge has cracked it has been professionally repaired. Without a dust jacket, probably as issued. A 16 mo measuring 7" tall by 4 3/4" deep containing 305 pages of text with illustrations followed by six pages of ads by the publisher. New York 1968 First Norton Facsimile Edition Near fine in 1/2 pebbled red leather and red cloth covered boards with four raised bands on the spine with gilt text and decorations in the compartments, with printed end sheets and a gilt top edge to the text block and a silk placement ribbon sewn-in at the top edge of the spine. A folio measuring 14" by 9 1/2" with light wear and rubbing to the leather at the head of the spine and with seven tiny, 1/16" dots of darker red stain over what may have been spots on the leather back strip. Without a dust jacket as issued; however, this volume is contained within a very good+ cloth covered slip case. 928 pages of text preceded by a 27 page preface and introduction.
