First Edition A 12mo measuring 7" by 4 1/2" in good condition in its original leather, calf covered boards with an early prior owner's name ("John Webster, attorney at law") on the front end sheet. The leather at the corners of the boards is worn and rubbed through, both joints are worn and weak and the front hinge is cracked although it has been professionally repaired with archival tape. 119 pages of text and illustrated with a wood engraving frontispiece of "The Constable seizing a tobacco taker." The contents have been re-sewn and are in very good condition with tanning and mild foxing throughout. The hand colored map of Connecticut has been recently washed, remounted and restored. It shows minor losses at the edges not impacting on the map itself. 560 pages of text. Illustrated throughout with 200 wood block engravings. Barber, an illustrator and historian (1798-1885) was Connecticut's first popular historian creating one of the first travel guides of the state. Following the index (in the front of the book) is a hand colored, fold-out map of the State of Connecticut noting all of its towns at the time (see note above regarding condition). The majority of the text block shows dampness staining across the upper 2/3rds of most of the pages yet the printing on each page remains easily read. There are two early prior owner's names in ink on the first free end page. A 12mo measuring 7 1/8" tall by 4 1/8" deep containing 200 pages of text. The information contained in the parts of the book include: Part I. Containing a history of the town of East-Haven, from its first settlement in 1644, the year 1800. Also, an account of its boundaries, iron-works and mills, division of lands, controversies with New-Haven, and Branford, town charters, ecclesiastisal affairs, schools, population and taxes, losses by war, natural history and curiosities, roads and public lands. A two volume set both volumes of which are in very good condition in dark blue cloth covered boards with gilt text stampings on the spines. The cloth at the lower half of the joint of Volume 1 is splitting however, the book and binding remain tight. The cloth at the heads and heels of the spines for both volumes are rubbed and in some some areas the cloth is frayed. The volumes contain the Journal of the Council of Safety from October 11, 1776 to May 6, 1778. The pages within both volumes are largely un-cut. First Edition Very good in 3/4 decorated brown leather and cloth covered boards with four raised bands on the spine, with gilt text in two of the compartments and printer's devices in gilt on the bands and gilt embossed borders at the head and heel of the spine. The edges of the leather on the boards are decorated with gilt embossed borders and the end sheets are marbled. An octavo measuring 9" by 5 1/2" with much of the sizing in the cloth on the boards eaten away and with the leather at the lower rear tip of the rear board worn through. The preliminaries show faint spots of foxing and tanning as do the end pages. There is an early prior owner's name in ink with the date of 1889 on the verso of the first free end page. 626 pages of text including an index. The hinges, joints and binding for this volume are very tight and strong putting this rather uncommon title in a very collectible condition. Our code number = TB24980

First Edition Very good in full light brown leather covered boards with a gilt on red leather label on the spine and with a text on the front board reading: "Furnished by the State to the Town of" followed by a four inch black line on which is written in a neat script hand the name of the town of "Durham". The boards are bordered with blinding embossing. The edges of the boards are rubbed and there is a tear to the leather at the heel of the spine. The hinges and joints are tight and storng and all of the pages are present. The spine is also labeled with the number "41" An octavo measuring 9" tall by 6" deep containing 648 pages of text. A one page map in very good condition measuring approximately 30" by 20 1/2" (border to border) being plate 28 removed from the original Atlas of the City of New Haven, Connecticut, from the Triangulations, Surveys, and Maps of the City Engineer's Office of 1888. This survey is bounded by Hillhouse and Whitney Avenues on the west, Humphrey Street on the north, State, Summer and Franklin Streets on the east and Trumbull Street on the south. The detail is such that all property lines and buildings are shown with property owner's names and with dimensions of lots. Overall this is a highly detailed, hand colored map showing the placement and relative size and shape of buildings in this section of New Haven as of 1888. Our code number = TB23896
