First Edition Good in dark blue cloth covered boards with gilt text and decorations on the spine and front board. The cloth at the head and heel of the spine is heavily rubbed and worn as well as the tips of the boards and there is a 1/4" by 1/4" deep chip to the cloth at the fore edge of the front board. The front hinge is starting and the preliminaries are lightly foxed. Without its issued dust jacket. 179 pages including an index followed by four pages of ads by the publisher. First Edition Very good- in black cloth covered boards with bold gilt text stamping on the front board and the remnants of a paper label on the spine. With a mild dampness stain that has seeped into the preliminaries and final pages in the book, not impacting on any of the text. Identified as a "Library Edition" on the verso of the fly title page. Without its issued dust jacket. "A pictorial check list and collation together with a history of each ship." A quarto measuring 11" tall by 8 1/2" deep containing 107 pages followed by a two page index. Containing reproductions of 21 large folio and 63 black and white small folio plates of illustrations done by N. Currier or Currier & Ives. Each print is identified with an historic description of the vessel depicted and the various states for the print shown.
